J. R. was born in the Philippines, raised in Hawaii, moved to Los Angeles, and finished high school in Las Vegas in 2003. He went on to attend U.C. San Diego where he earned his bachelor's degree in Biology (2006). After the Lord re-directed his ambition from research zoology to pastoral ministry, he went on to attend The Master's Seminary (Sun Valley, CA), from where he received his M.Div in 2011. He is currently enrolled in the M.A. Biblical Counseling program at The Master's College, and is currently in the certification process for the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
Since 2007, J. R. has served as a children's pastor, youth pastor, college pastor, associate pastor, and elder in churches in San Diego and Silicon Valley. He has served in children's ministry, youth ministry, college and young adults ministry, family ministry, music ministry, men's discipleship, biblical counseling, leadership and ministry training, Christian education, and international missions (Czech Republic, Argentina, Philippines). He was the keynote speaker at the Revive National Leadership and Pastors Conference in the Philippines, and has been a guest-preacher at several different churches in the Bay Area, where he enjoys fellowship with other kindred-spirited ministers. For two years, J.R. also worked as a middle school and high school teacher at a local Christian School.
J.R. has been happily married to his wonderful wife, Kathy, since 2009. They have two wonderful children, Jayden and Emma. Together, they love finding large, open spaces and parks in Silicon Valley where J.R. and Kathy can chat it up while the kids roam free like dingoes in the outback. If he isn't with his family or at the church office, probability and statistics say that J. R. will be found at a tennis court, a running trail, a swimming pool, a gym, drinking milk tea, tutoring a student, or with his nose stuck in an animal physiology article.
